Summer School 2020 - Postponed to 2021

Ph.D. students interested in educational technology participate in the 16th EATEL Summer School.

SMILE Lab is proud to co-organize the 16th EATEL Summer School on Technology Enhanced Learning at Halkidiki, Greece, on May 23-30, 2020.

The summer school provides doctoral candidates with a perspective of state-of-the-art research on Technology Enhanced Learning. The programme includes practical and methodological workshops as well as opportunities for PhD students to develop their research and discuss their doctoral work. Furthermore, it will help doctoral students to build bridges for future collaborations with experts in the field and peers across Europe.

Thesis Defense

Our team member Zacharoula Papamitsiou successfully defended her Ph.D. Thesis entitled: "Supporting learner's Capacity for Autonomous Decisions using Learning Analytics" on August 29th at the University of Macedonia (IPPS in Information Systems, http://mis.uom.gr).

Her presentation was really inspiring and she has really impressed the examiners and the audience with her outstanding research work.

We would like to wish her every success in her life and her professional career and we are looking forward to celebrating her next professional achievements!

Openness in formal education: chmod 777 education

On Monday, December 4th, 2017, at 11:00 in the Conference Hall, University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece, SMILE (Smart Mobile Interactive Learning Environments) lab and IPPS in Information Systems organize the open lecture- seminar: "Openness in formal education: chmod 777 education".

The invited speaker, Prof. Carlos Santos, from the DigiMedia research center, Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal, will give a leacture on what would happen if we would give students full access privileges to their learning. What if they could decide, on their own terms, the design of their learning paths, their information sources, their courses? In this open lecture we will introduce the concepts of open access, sharing and collaboration in formal educational contexts and explore some of their possibilities supported by an overview of international initiatives/projects. To actively participate in this open lecture bring your own smartphone, tablet, laptop, … (BYOD). More

Economides, and (b) Explaining performance using response-times, self-regulation and satisfaction from content: an fsQCA approach , by Z. Papamitsiou, A. A. Economides, I. O. Pappas and M. N. The Martin Wolpers Award at JTEL 2017

We have wonderful news to share! Our team has supported the organization of the 13th Joint European Summer School on Technology-enhanced Learning (JTELSS) that took place in Aveiro, Portugal.

Our colleague, Zacharoula Papamitsiou, won the Martin Wolpers Award for the research project of the most promising young researcher. The Award was supported by the Research Institute for Innovation & Technology in Education (UNIR iTED).

We would like to congratulate her and to wish her all the best in her professional life!
